OCNZ NEWSLETTER: MAY 2021

Te Puke Show
In early April I attended the Te Puke Show to take part in the judging. There was a good turn-out of judges from around the regions and it was an enjoyable morning. The sales tables were very popular with people champing at the bit to get in! Barbara Jenner from the North Shore Orchid Society was busy with her camera and kindly suppled the photos on this page.

National Judges’ Seminar – Breaking News!
With the Tasman Bubble up and running David Banks is keen to come to speak at the seminar and to be the after-dinner speaker. This is excellent news! David always gives informative talks. If you haven’t registered for the seminar and dinner there is still time to do so. Please email Anton Wehman if you have misplaced your registration form.

Spray Books
In the last newsletter we advertised culture books and spray books. We have good stocks of culture books but rather than have a new run of organic spray books printed the OCNZ Executive has decided to make the book available on the OCNZ website. You will find the organic spray book in the Cultural Notes section which Sandra Simpson added to the website this year. This section contains some useful information so please do have a read through it. Great work Sandra!

Waikato Orchid Society 60th Anniversary Show
This show had to be cancelled last year due to Covid-19 so the Waikato Orchid Society has decided to run it this year in place of its winter show. Saturday, July 17 is for registrants only with the show opening up for the public on Sunday, July 18. This would be a great show for a club outing either by bus or by car-pooling. The Hamilton Gardens are always lovely to visit. For further details please contact Pearl Martin, phone 07 827 7839; ph/txt 027 290 4535 or by email.

2021 Yearbook – Pub Charity Funding
The OCNZ is pleased to announce that their funding application with Pub Charity Ltd has been successful. Pub Charity has granted $5000.00 towards the printing and binding cost of Orchids 2021.
OCNZ thanks Pub Charity Ltd for its continued support.
