OCNZ AGM & Judging Seminar
I’m pleased to report that the Howick Orchid Society hosted a successful National Judges’ Seminar and AGM Weekend. OCNZ thanked the Howick Orchid Society for a well-run event and presented Anton and Janet Wehman with a Special Service Award in recognition for the service they have given OCNZ and the Howick Orchid Society. You may remember that Howick was to host the National seminar last year with preparations well under way when it had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. Anton and Janet were also involved with organising the 2012 seminar. Anton was the chairman of the organising committee for Expo 2016 with Janet assisting in the background. COA Chair Chris Hubbert put together an excellent seminar programme. It was great to have David Banks from Australia with us again; David gave three thought-provoking judging-based talks and provided an entertaining after-dinner speech on Saturday evening. Lee Neale and Warren Spencer from the Auckland Judging panel also gave excellent talks.

Positions for the OCNZ Executive did not have to go to the vote as all current committee members returned uncontested, congratulations to you all. Margaret Lomas has completed her term as President and now serves as our Immediate Past President for the next 12 months. Thank you Margaret for your time as President you can have a well-earned rest.
The new committee is: President Glenys MacRae; Vice-President Allan Rae; Secretary Bryan Sutherland; Treasurer Chris Hubbert; Executive Committee, Joy Hopson, Gillian Lyster, Keith Smart, Sandra Simpson, Penny Moore.

Vale – Wes Ross-Taylor (Ross)
We were very sad to hear that the OCNZ Patron, Wes Ross-Taylor, passed away two weeks ago. Ross was a life member of the Hawkes Bay Orchid Society, being active for 40+ years growing and showing orchids. Ross was involved at a national level for many years and was OCNZ’s second President. Sandra Simpson had just interviewed Ross 10 days before he passed. That interview can be found here. Ross’ knowledge and support will be sorely missed. Condolences go to Christine and Ross’ family.

2021 OCNZ Awards
We are pleased to announce that photos and information for the 2021 awards can be viewed on the OCNZ website. The awards will be updated on a regular basis. We do hope you will enjoy seeing the award photos and will find the information useful.

Orchids 2021 will be with you very soon. This was Allan Rae’s first year in the editor’s seat and despite concerns that this publication might be slim due to Covid-19 reducing news and awards from 2020 Allan has put together respectable Yearbook. Great job Allan!
