OCNZ Newsletter: June 2020

Happy Queen’s Birthday weekend everyone. Isn’t it nice to have a bit more freedom to move about and to catch up with family and friends, and to get a much needed haircut!

OCNZ Election
As you know the National Judges Seminar and OCNZ AGM should have taken place this weekend, hosted by the Howick Orchid Society in Auckland. In lieu of the AGM we planned to have a postal ballot for the election of officers but in the end didn’t need to run a ballot because OCNZ received just enough nominations to cover all of the positions.

The 2020/2021 Executive committee is:
President: Margaret Lomas, Whangarei
Vice-presidents: Glenys MacRae, Waitakere; Allan Rae, Manawatu
Secretary: Bryan Sutherland, Taranaki
Treasurer: Chris Hubbert, North Shore
Executive Committee: Joy Hopson, Taranaki; Gillian Lyster, Nelson; Keith Smart, Waikato; Sandra Simpson, Tauranga; Penny Moore, Canterbury.

Congratulations to all and welcome to Sandra and Penny, we hope you will enjoy your time on council. We said goodbye to Jeanette Hewer and Anton Wehman who decided not to stand again this year. Thank you Jeanette for your time as Secretary and thank you Anton for your year back on Council. Bryan kindly offered to take on the Secretary’s role, thank you very much Bryan. Council will have its next meeting by Zoom on June 28.

National Orchid Expo 2022
The Waikato and Tauranga Orchid Societies have combined to host the next National Orchid Expo in the Waikato area during 2022. Keith Smart has done some initial exploratory work and has been busy putting together an organising committee. It is great that we can keep the Expos going, thank you Keith for taking the lead on this. OCNZ will give you progress updates as it comes to hand.
