OCNZ NEWSLETTER: DECEMBER 2018

Vale Clive Perry
We were very sad to hear that our dear friend Clive Perry of Taranaki passed away in Waikato Hospital on Sunday (November 25) as a result of a head injury sustained in a fall on Saturday. Clive will be greatly missed by the orchid fraternity. We extend our condolences to Clive’s siblings.

Taranaki Summer Show: January 19-20
Registrations have opened. The special guest is Stephen Monkhouse from Australia. This is a great opportunity to hear Stephen speak. Please note: you must be a registrant to enter plants in the show.

Yearbook 2019
The Yearbook committee needs your articles for the 2019 yearbook. News on any events or anniversaries your society has been involved in and vales for well-known orchid personalities can be submitted to the yearbook committee using my email address.

Club Contact Details & Show Dates
To all society secretaries, please could you fill out the attached form and return it to the OCNZ Treasurer so that your society contact details and show dates can be updated on the OCNZ Website, and to ensure that we have the correct information to put in the 2019 Yearbook. This information is required by February 28 at the very latest.

2019 National Orchid Expo: September 19-22
To be hosted by Manawatu and Hawkes Bay societies. There is still time to book a commercial space and if your club hasn’t booked a display space yet please think about putting a display together for the big occasion. Bryan Sharpe from Waitakere Orchid Club has volunteered to run the clubs’ trading table; thank you Bryan. Contact the organising committee

Season’s Greetings
The OCNZ Executive Committee wishes you a safe and enjoyable festive season, and looks forward to seeing you at the 2019 National Orchid Expo.

I hope 2018 has been a successful and productive year for you and your orchid society. There have been some great shows around the country with a lot of plants sold to the general public. The challenge for all of us is to motivate these people to join an orchid society. I am taking a well-earned break; you will receive your next newsletter in February 2019.
