This newsletter is slightly later than usual as I’ve just returned from a holiday in Vietnam (and the person who posts these newsletters is just back from Japan!). Vietnam is such an interesting country to visit; I can recommend it as a holiday destination. I wasn’t looking for orchids specifically, but did see Dendrobium and Phalaenopsis growing in clay pots with holes in the courtyards of homes and at various places I visited. Sadly, people still take orchids out of the jungle and sell them on the side of the road and I witnessed this in Hanoi. They are generally poor people trying to earn some money so probably don’t understand or care about conservation.
Chris Hubbert has three copies of OrchidWiz version X5.0 (September 2018) available, cost is $160. Anyone wishing to buy a copy please email Chris – first in first served basis. The subsequent updates (December 2018 and March 2019) can be downloaded from the Owz website after X5.0 has been installed and validated.
The OCNZ has the following publications available for purchase:
Pests and Sprays Handbook – easy to read; contains recipes for organic sprays. This was very popular last year with about 100 copies sold.
Orchid Cultural Handbook – great to have on hand at shows for members of the public who have purchased plants and want to know how to grow them.
Orchid Yearbook back copies – we have a range of Yearbooks from the last 10 years.
Handbooks are $20 for 10 copies (minimum order), plus postage and packaging. Yearbook back copies are $10 per copy, plus postage and packaging. Please email the OCNZ Secretary if you would like to purchase any of these.
